Anderson Area Guide

Tucked in at the northern end of Great Central Valley along the Sacramento River, the City of Anderson, in “Upstate” California is a community that enjoys a small town feel, where neighbors know each other by name and have a sense of community not often found in today’s hustle and bustle world.

Named after ranch owner Elias Anderson who gave the right of way to the Oregon and California Railroad, a station was also built and in return the railroad gave the depot his name. Building a home on East Street, while it stood, the house was designated as California Historical Landmark Number 12. In 1876, he moved the ranch hotel to the corner of Main and Ferry and eventually sold it to his son George and retired. He moved into his daughter Annie’s house, where he lived until his death.

Today, the community of Anderson takes great pride in offering something for everyone, from Seniors to Pre-Schoolers. Just a few of these treats include a Teen Center, the Frontier Senior Center, and a concert stage in majestic Anderson River Park as well as being the home to the Shasta District Fair. http://www.ci.anderson.ca.us/

Until a few years ago, Anderson’s main industry was lumber, but now it’s enjoying a resurgence in the retail industry, especially with the opening of a Wal-Mart Supercenter across from the existing Shasta Outlets. Thanks to that and Prime Cinemas, Anderson is creating a whole new shopping experience for visitors and residents alike on the south side. www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anderson,_California
