Palo Cedro Area GuideEight miles east of Redding California lies Palo Cedro, four thousand people strong with that small town spirit and lots of energy, ready to greet you with open arms. It’s known that John Work and a group from the Hudson Bay Fur Traders passed along Cow Creek through modern day Palo Cedro in 1832 and by 1883 a post office was established for the area, but name changes were in the future. First becoming Albertson, then Roberts in 1885 until Palo Cedro was the name settled on in 1893.
By the 1900’s, the stage route went from Redding all the way to Fall River Mills and slowly but surely, Palo Cedro grew, building its own school house, store and post office and market. Palo Cedro continued to grow and need more services, and history was made in Palo Credro with the first independently owned pharmacy opening in 1975. Home owned and operated, residents aren’t surprised when they head in to get a prescription filled and find an old photo of themselves or a friend on the wall. Photos and memorabilia collected over the last thirty years are a mosaic of life in a small town. Visitors and residents alike are charmed by the small town feel of Palo Cedro, where truly, everyone will know your name.
